GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG, 17th August, 1923.

My Lord Duke,
As Your Grace is already aware Dr. J. T. C.
Johnson, Principal Civil Medical Officer in this Colony, is about to retire from the service having attained the age of 55 years. I have the honour to enclose a copy of a pension certificate showing his service in this Colony but it has not been possible
to complete the certificate since the exact length of Dr. Johnson's service in East Africa is not know here and it is not
therefore possible to decide what addition to his actual service can properly be made under Clause 17 (2) of the Pension Minute.
My Executive Council recommends and I entirely agree that the
maximm addition for which he is eligible under the clause
referred to should be granted and I shall be glad if the pension
may be calculated accordingly.
2.
Dr. Johnson left this Colony on the 7th July and
proceeded to Australia to represent this Government at the Pan
Pacific Congress. This Congress is expected to end on or about
the 4th September and I have granted him five months' vacation
leave, for which he is eligible, from the 5th September at the termination of which he will be placed on pension.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE, K.G.,
I have the honour to be,
My Lord Duke,
Your Grace's most obedient
1
humble servant,
7. E. Stubbe
Governor, &c.
